Senator Shehu Sani has called on Nigerians to think critically before accepting campaign promises from politicians, publishing a list of 16 pledges he said citizens should treat with deep suspicion.
The former senator representing Kaduna Central posted the list on his official X account, framing it as a caution ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested 2027 general election season.

He described the kind of politician making such pledges as “bourgeoisie” and opened his post with a sharp directive:
“PLEASE ACTIVATE THE REASONING BUTTON of your BRAIN before you believe any of these 16 promises.”
The full list of 16 promises
Sani’s list targets pledges that have historically appeared in Nigerian political campaigns but have rarely been kept. The 16 promises he listed are:
1. I will NEVER change my political party.
2. I will only serve ONE TERM.
3. I will RESTRUCTURE Nigeria.
4. I will NEVER FAVOUR people of my ethnic and religious group above others.
5. I will NEVER deal with IMF and World Bank.
6. I will NEVER borrow.
7. I will NEVER bow to Western Interests.
8. I will restore subsidy.
9. I will NEVER increase taxes.
10. I will make Naira equal to dollar.
11. I will allow the National Assembly to elect their leaders without interference. 12. I will sell off Presidential fleet and fly commercial.
13. I will never temper with the freedom of speech.
14. I will never privatise public assets.
15. Education will be free at ALL LEVELS.
16. I Will CUT the cost of Governance.

Previously, Legit.ng reported that Abdulaziz Yari, the senator representing Zamfara West and a former governor of the state, pledged to secure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 after being named director-general of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council.
Yari made the commitment on Saturday, August 22, in a statement reacting to his appointment, saying he accepted the role with “deep gratitude” and “full seriousness.”
