Ebonyi State – Osborn Umahi, son of the Minister of Works, David Umahi, has been declared chairman-elect of Ohaozara Local Government Area in Ebonyi State.
The chairmanship and councilorship elections were conducted on Saturday, August 22, 2026, across the state’s council areas.
The Chairman of the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC), Patrick Enyi, announced the results at the commission’s office on Onwe Road, Abakaliki.
As reported by The Punch, he said the exercise was peaceful, free and fair, noting that multiple political parties took part.
Enyi also commended voters for turning out in numbers and praised security agencies for their support throughout the process.
Reacting to his victory, Osborn Umahi praised EBSIEC for what he called a transparent and peaceful election.
He promised to focus his tenure on rural development, youth empowerment, and agricultural transformation in Ohaozara.
APC sweeps Ebonyi council seats
The All Progressives Congress (APC) won every chairmanship position declared across Ebonyi State.
Stanley Okoro Emegha, the APC Chairman in the state, said the outcome reflected the party’s dominance and its growing acceptance among voters.
According to Vanguard, he expressed confidence that the APC would build on the result heading into the 2027 general elections.
Other chairmanship candidates declared elected include Peace Agwu in Ishielu, Paul Ituma in Ohaukwu, Friday Nwuhuo in Ezza North, Chinedu Mkpuma in Ezza South, Chidi Nwode in Ikwo, Timothy Nwachi in Afikpo, Ikechukwu Ogbofia in Onicha, Michael Kalu Anyim in Ivo, Simeon Onuoha in Edda, Helen Aduga in Izzi, Chidiebere Alo in Abakaliki, and Chibueze Odigwe in Ebonyi Local Government Area.

Winners emerge in Ebonyi Local Government elections
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) chairman, Enyi Patrick, announced results after local government elections held across Ebonyi State on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) swept all 13 local government areas and 171 wards contested in the election, according to the electoral commission.
Governor Francis Nwifuru cast his vote and later praised EBSIEC for the conduct of the exercise across the state.
