FCT, Abuja – Ahead of the 2027 elections, Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, has referenced the ongoing factional crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing reports linking former President Goodluck Jonathan to the Kabiru Turaki faction.
According to Vanguard, Keyamo argued that the Turaki-led bloc lacks legal standing to nominate or field candidates.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain added that the development further complicates what he described as an already “constitutionally untenable” situation for the former Nigerian leader.
Keyamo addresses Jonathan PDP speculation
The Delta-born politician said on Sunday, May 10:
“Jonathan is not constitutionally eligible to run. It is as simple as that. The Supreme Court will most likely disqualify him.
“And I think he knows because they are dangling the ticket of the PDP that does not exist in law before him. The Turaki-led PDP that cannot field candidates. That is double tragedy for him. But I think they just want to participate in an academic exercise.”
Legit.ng reports that Jonathan served two oaths of office, completing the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s term from 2010 to 2011, then winning a full term from 2011 to 2015, a tenure profile that legal analysts have long argued renders him ineligible for another presidential run under the two-term limit enshrined in the 1999 constitution.

Meanwhile, a suit at the federal high court seeking to disqualify Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election is expected to be revisited today, Monday, May 11, 2026.

Jonathan to run on PDP platform
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Jonathan will reportedly attempt to return to the presidency using the PDP as the platform to actualise his renewed presidential ambition.
A top official in Jonathan’s team confirmed that the decision to use the PDP followed extensive deliberation over where his chances were brighter in returning to power ‘in order to provide quality leadership to the country amid growing hardship and poverty’.
One prominent group, the ‘Goodluckan Movement’, made up of Nigerians in the diaspora, claims the right to secure the form on Jonathan’s behalf, arguing that it better represents global Nigerian interests than competing northern blocs also seeking to front his candidacy.
