Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has accepted a role on the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, while assuring Nigerians that security operations across the country will continue without disruption.
The Ministry of Defence announced the development in a statement sighted by Legit.ng on Monday, August 24, signed by Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister.

General Musa was appointed as Secretary I on the campaign council, a position the minister described as a call to higher service following the trust placed in him by President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership.
Musa’s commitment to the campaign role
Accepting the appointment, General Musa said he would approach the role with diligence and focus, pledging to help deliver victory for the ruling party at the polls.
He expressed full confidence in the APC’s ability to succeed in 2027, urging members and supporters across the country to remain united behind the administration.
The minister also called on patriotic citizens to rally around the Tinubu-led government, describing the period ahead as one requiring collective resolve.
Security mandate remains unchanged, minister says
Despite taking on campaign duties, General Musa was firm that his constitutional responsibilities at the Ministry of Defence would not be set aside.
He said all ongoing military operations, strategic reforms, and inter-agency collaborations across the defence sector would continue with full force.
“National security remains our highest imperative,” Musa said.
“The ongoing operations, strategic reforms, and inter-agency collaborations across the defence sector will continue unabated with increased vigour. Our resolve to uphold the mandate of the Ministry of Defence, protect our people, and drive Mr. President’s vision for a safe and prosperous Nigeria remains firm and unshakeable.”
The minister’s dual role comes at a time when Nigeria continues to face security challenges across several regions, including ongoing counterinsurgency operations in the northeast and banditry in the northwest.
His assurance that neither responsibility would be sacrificed for the other appears aimed at pre-empting concerns about the politicisation of the defence portfolio ahead of a major election cycle.
Defence HQ’s X page hacked
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the official Twitter account of the Defence Headquarters of Nigeria, @DHQNigeria, was hacked on on Saturday, August 15, with the breach going unaddressed for several hours before any intervention was reported.
Bashir Ahmad, OON, a former presidential aide to ex-president Muhammadu Buhari, drew public attention to the incident through a post on his own Twitter account, urging the Defence Intelligence Agency to respond without delay.
