Adamawa state Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has launched an electric mobility initiative aimed at reducing dependence on petrol and creating employment opportunities for young people across the state.
The programme includes plans by the state government to procure 1,000 electric tricycles for distribution to youths at subsidised rates

The initiative was unveiled during the commissioning of electric tricycle assembly and rollout operations at Mahmud Ribadu Square in Jimeta.
Adamawa launches electric transport initiative
In a statement made available to Legit.ng, Fintiri said the project formed part of his administration’s efforts to improve living conditions and expand economic opportunities for residents, particularly young people.
According to the governor, the state partnered with private firms, including Sparrow Mobility Limited, to tackle transport challenges and encourage cleaner energy alternatives.
He stated that electric tricycles already assembled in the state would provide jobs and support commercial transportation.
Fintiri also disclosed that more than 6,000 households across several local government areas had benefited from solar energy installations introduced by the government.
The governor said the electric mobility project would reduce the burden caused by rising fuel costs while supporting sustainable transportation.

Officials project economic benefits
Commissioner for Transport Development, Wunfe Anthony, described the initiative as a major step toward lowering transport operating costs and improving economic activities in the state.
She said the partnership between the ministry and private companies had produced encouraging results within a short period.
Group Chief Executive Officer of A4&T Company, Ayodeji Ademilua, said his team visited Adamawa in May 2025 to assess investment opportunities before deciding to collaborate with the state government on alternative energy solutions.
According to him, electric tricycles would promote affordability, sustainability and economic growth. He commended the governor for creating a business-friendly environment for investors.
Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Dr Abba Abubakar Aliyu, said several mini-grid projects with a combined capacity of 35 megawatts had already been developed across the state, while additional projects were underway.
The event featured the commissioning of electric tricycles, inspection of the company’s operational site in Girei Local Government Area and a visit to the solar energy farm at Modibbo Adama University, Yola.
Adamawa approves N11.4bn to build new NYSC camp
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Adamawa state executive council has approved a total of N11.4 billion for the execution of key developmental projects spanning the education, health, water, and power sectors.
Commissioner for Information and Strategy, James Iliya, who announced the decision after the council meeting, said the funding aligns with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s vision of improving social infrastructure and living standards across the state.
