JAMB releases cut-off mark for 2026/2027 admission
Earlier, JAMB announced 150 as the minimum admissible scores, popularly referred to as ‘cut-off mark’, for admission into universities for the 2026/2027 academic session. The examination board explained that the decision followed a vote of vice-chancellors present at the meeting.
During JAMB’s meeting, heads of tertiary institutions in Nigeria unanimously agreed that the minimum admissible scores for admission into Colleges of Nursing should be 150, while polytechnics should set theirs at 100.
Meanwhile, the cut-off mark that was earlier announced by the examination board has started generating reactions from Nigerians. Below are some of their comments:
Akorede defended the examination board:
“Minimum oo, I know some people will still cry under this post. Depending on the number of applications and other factors, each school will determine their own cut-off marks for each course, but cannot go below 150. I would have said the lowest score should be 200, but again, I understand the quota system is at play here.”

Foundational Hausa Man said any UTME candidate who did not get an average mark in the exercise should not be given admission:
“Anyone who scores 150 out of 400 total points should not qualify for admission into a polytechnic, let alone a university or nursing school.”
Namzy mentioned universities that would not accept JAMB cut-off marks:
“If you scored below 200 in UTME, just protect your mental health and avoid these schools. Lagos State University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, Ahmadu Bello University etc. Those schools will humble you academically before admission even starts.”
Olalubi Bidemi Olayinka criticised the announcement:
“What’s school turning to? During my days, the cut-off mark for universities was 200 upwards; even with 200, your chance of getting admission into a university is slim. No wonder the majority of graduates can’t defend themselves when necessary.”
