The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old man over alleged involvement in a kidnapping operation in the state.
According to preliminary police findings, the suspect is believed to be part of a group allegedly responsible for a recent abduction incident in the state. Officers reportedly tracked the suspect after actionable intelligence linked him to the location where a victim was being held.
During the operation, police operatives successfully rescued the kidnapped victim, who was said to have been held for a period before the intervention. A sum of money believed to be ransom was also recovered at the scene.
Security officials said the arrest marks a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping and violent crime in the state, particularly along identified flashpoints where criminal elements have been active.
The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, through a statement from the Command, reaffirmed the police commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against kidnapping syndicates and other violent crimes, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the network who remain at large.
The Command further assured residents of improved surveillance, patrol operations, and intelligence gathering across strategic locations, urging the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
The suspect is currently in custody and assisting investigators, while police say further details will be made public as investigations progress.
