FCT, Abuja – Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, known widely as Ogogo, who died following a prolonged battle with cancer.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate and is the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for Ogun State, issued a formal condolence message to Hassan’s family on Sunday.

As reported by The Punch, the statement was signed by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, and released to journalists on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
Adeola pays tribute to late actor
The senator called Hassan’s death “a monumental loss to the creative and entertainment industry,” adding that the impact of the loss extended beyond the entertainment world to his family, Ogun State, and Nigeria at large.
“I am greatly saddened by the death of a brother who believed and worked assiduously for my cause and the cause of our people. I sympathise with his immediate family for their efforts and struggles to keep the dearly departed alive following his illness. God knows best in all circumstances.”
He noted that Hassan’s work in filmmaking and his broader advocacy for a better society left behind a legacy worth emulating, and promised that his family’s patriarch would not be forgotten.
Senator Adeola also pledged to continue offering support to the immediate family during this difficult period.
Ogogo’s death confirmed by Nollywood community
The news of Hassan’s death was confirmed by multiple sources, including Seun Oloketuyi, founder of Best of Nollywood. Oloketuyi announced the passing on social media, writing: “Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is dead. He finally lost the battle of life.”
Hassan’s daughter, Kaira Taiwo, also addressed the death during a live session on Instagram on Sunday, visibly emotional and expressing disbelief over losing her father.

Jide Kosoko broke the sad news and revealed that the veteran actor Ogogo’s remains would be taken to his hometown in Ilaro, Ogun State.
Special prayers for the late actor were scheduled for Monday, 24th August 2026, at the Pavilion in Ilaro, Ogun State.
Ogogo’s daughter breaks down in tears
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Kira Taiwo broke down in tears on a live stream on Sunday, August 23, 2026, reacting to a cleric who shared details of visiting her ailing father.
The cleric’s video reached Ogogo’s family WhatsApp group, leaving a close relative shattered and asking if the veteran actor was dying.
Kira accused people of trying to profit from her father’s health crisis and asked them to fear God.
