Jubilation as Tinubu Gives Ogun Governor Abiodun New Appointment, “Excellent Choice”

Abeokuta, Ogun state – President Bola Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 elections, with Ogun Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun assigned to lead fundraising efforts for the campaign.

As reported by Guardian, the full membership list was released on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in a statement signed by the presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu will chair the council himself, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda both listed as Vice Chairmen. Former Zamfara Governor Senator Abdulaziz Yari will serve as Director-General. Imo Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma takes the role of Secretary, while APC National Secretary Senator Ajibola Bashiru and Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Deputy Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.

Tinubu unveils APC 2027 campaign team

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni are among those named Deputy Directors-General, alongside Senators Bamidele Opeyemi and Jibril Barau. Senator Adams Oshiomhole will head Mobilisation as Deputy Director-General, while James Abiodun Faleke returns as Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring, a role he held during the 2022/2023 campaign.

A board of advisers includes former Osun Governor Chief Bisi Akande, veteran journalist Chief Segun Osoba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, former APC National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.

The Media and Strategic Communication Directorate will be led by Minister of Information Mohammed Idris Malagi, working alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga, and Lanre Issa-Onilu. Alake also leads a team of five spokespersons that includes Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu, and Adamu Fanda. Segun Dada has been reappointed as Director of New Media.

Tinubu’s message to the council

Addressing council members, Tinubu urged them to work vigorously to secure victory for the APC at the polls. He called on directorate heads to draw in party members not formally listed and encouraged all stakeholders to contribute to the campaign drive. Tinubu also asked the council to communicate the administration’s record to Nigerians, arguing that his government had delivered on its promises and set the country on a path of economic recovery.

Showunmi hails Tinubu’s choice

Reacting to Abiodun’s appointment, Ogun politician Segun Showunmi praised the decision, writing on his verified X page:

“You have made an excellent choice. Anyone familiar with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s track record in the private sector knows the depth of his relationships, his understanding of finance, and his access to many of the nation’s most influential business leaders and stakeholders. He is highly competent, exceptionally diligent, and unwaveringly loyal to you and to the APC.

Ben Murray-Bruce urges Tinubu: Add ‘mad men’

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that former Bayelsa East Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, urged President Tinubu to appoint more people he described as “mad men” into his administration, saying Nigeria needs officials bold enough to challenge entrenched interests and confront a broken system.

Murray-Bruce, in a statement directed at the president, said his support for the administration would not stop him from offering constructive criticism, stressing that genuine support should not amount to sycophancy.
