The Lagos State Police Command says it is investigating a case in which the Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria, Oluwasegun Alebiosu, received a parcel containing live ammunition at his residence in Lagos.
The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, confirmed the incident on Tuesday during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja, describing it as a serious matter currently under investigation.
Mr Fatai stated that the parcel was delivered to the bank chief’s residence, where it was received before being opened, revealing two rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
“Well, there is a case like that which we are presently investigating… when he opened the parcel, he saw two live rounds of ammunition,” he said.
He added that investigators had yet to establish those behind the delivery, noting that no arrest had been made.
“Presently, no suspects in custody… we are still working on it,” the commissioner noted.
Mr Fatai said the police were treating the matter as a priority case requiring detailed investigation, including efforts to trace the dispatch rider who delivered the package.
He also noted that the complainant had provided some names of persons he suspected, but stressed that such claims remained part of ongoing investigative leads.
The parcel, according to security sources familiar with the matter, was delivered to Mr Alebiosu’s Ikoyi residence and received by domestic security personnel before being opened.
Sources stated that the package bore the recipient’s name but had no identifiable details of the sender, making tracing difficult at the initial stage.
A senior police officer at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, said investigators were reviewing Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage from the Ikoyi axis as part of efforts to identify the dispatch rider and reconstruct the delivery chain.
He said the rider remained a key focus of the investigation.
Security sources also said the incident had triggered internal security concerns within the financial institution, particularly as it coincided with ongoing loan recovery and restructuring measures.
However, the bank and the police have yet to officially link the parcel to any individual or group.

A senior staff member of the bank, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the matter was immediately escalated to security agencies after the discovery to ensure the safety of the managing director and his family.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, explained that the command was aware of the report and confirmed that the SCID had taken over the investigation.
She assured that the police were committed to uncovering those behind the incident and ensuring public safety.
“The Lagos State Police Command is urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities,” she stated.
The police said investigations are ongoing.
